I am appalled at Apple and what they’ve done with iTunes 9. Sure, they’ve included some important functionality and all, like app management and a new interface for the iTunes store, but did they really need to make it so fricken ugly? I mean, just take a look at the thing:

iUgly

Fucked up gradients and blindingly white backgrounds? Why, Apple, why?!

Oh, and Mindless Self Indulgence kicks ass; check ‘em out.

In other news, Apple updated their line of iPods. The Shuffle now comes in more colors and still kinda sucks, the Classic got a space bump to 160 GBs for the same price, the Nano got a sparkly new camera, and the iPod touch got a processor bump and still has no camera (and here’s some theories on why).

All in all, not too exciting for an Apple event. Steve’s back on stage with the liver of a 20-something-year-old who got hit by a car. That’s interesting, right?

Update: Apple’s released footage of the keynote which is available for download here.

Update 2: You can make iTunes 9 less ugly with this unofficial patch (OS X only, for now).

After being gone for six months and having a liver transplant, everyone’s favorite CEO is officially back at Apple.

Said Apple spokesman Steve Dowling:

“Steve Jobs is back to work. He is at Apple a few days a week and working from home the other days. We’re glad to have him back.”

This return probably won’t stop the reporters from trying to pry into his personal business, but it should hopefully calm shareholders. But news about Jobs’ health always brings about the question of Apple’s future without him.

Personally, I think Apple would be fine, if not great. They have a lot of momentum going now with the release of a new iPhone, and their stock has been doing great in the last six months without Jobs. After being ousted in 1985 from the company that he spent the majority of his life building, Jobs is going to make damn sure it thrives after he’s gone.

Gartner and IDC both confirmed what we all thought would happen with more and more Microsoft users running away from Vista and scooping up brand new hassle-free Macs at their local Best Buy. Apple is now officailly the third largest computer manufactor in the United States! And that doesn’t take into consideration the fact that a lot of Windows users are surfing the web with their iPods and iPhones. If you want to count those into the equasion, you’ve got a serious market share for surfing the web.

I’m very surprised to see them beat out Acer for the #3 spot. If you remember all the buying that went on last year, you’ll know that Acer owns the Gateway and eMachines brands as well as selling computers under their own name. There’s still a lot of headway to make if Steve Jobs expects Apple, Inc. to climb to the ranks of #2 considering how far ahead HP is. We’ll see what happens!
